“What a performance! I expected nothing, and it simply stunned me.
On February 1, 2025, Kasparas Uinskas performed both of Chopin’s Concertos: a grand piano rich in timbre, eloquent phrasing, a left hand that clearly makes itself heard and spices the finales with rhythmic vitality; in the Andante, a bel canto without sweetness—prodigiously poetic. What a performance! I expected nothing, and it simply stunned me.
The virtuoso is well known in Lithuania, a pianist justly celebrated. Hänssler Classic has documented his art in Chopin and Liszt, but captured in concert and driven by the energy of an evening that was undeniably explosive—the orchestra is simply fabulous from the very first entrances—it shines as much in the epic passages as in the lyrical ones.
The disc plays on repeat every morning on my turntable, and I continually discover new details, ideas, colors, singular phrasing, diminuendos that suspend time. Yet I always return to the Finale of the Second Concerto, with its hunting horn that invites one to dance the polonaise.
Do not miss this disc.
